What is ESSER?

ESSER stands for Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund.

Under the ESSER relief fund, the US Department of Education awards grants to State Educational Agencies (SEAs) for the purpose of providing Local Education Agencies (LEAs), like Putnam County School System, with emergency relief funds to address the impact that COVID-19 has had, and continues to have on elementary and secondary schools across the nation.

Putnam County School System is being allocated $20,676,389.97 of ESSER 3.0 funds to address learning loss and COVID-19 relief. These funds are one-time or short-term expenditures. 20% ($4,135,277.99) of these funds must be utilized to address learning loss due to COVID-19. We must be strategic in how we use the funds to ensure that decisions made can be sustained once the money has been spent.
